THE FACE BEHIND THE BRAND
Becky is a Canadian disability advocate, content creator, artist, & small business owner residing in Canada's Capital Region!
Becky graduated from Bachelors Degree in Classical Music in 2019. As performer- her life was upended by worsening health- with seemingly no answers. With her future as a concert flautist no longer possible, she continued her education.
Becky completed a certificate in Early Childhood Education and began her Post-grad in Autism and Behavioural Science when the Coronavirus pandemic was declared. Unable to complete the in-person worksite placement due to safety and further deteriorating health- she began her 3rd career pivot: becoming a chronically ill patient.
Although her health has continued to decline, she has turned everything she has been through and learned to help others on their own disability journey. She advocates for the undiagnosed, the rare disease community, and the disabled community at large. Social media was a crucial part of her diagnostic journey- and in her belief- is one of the most powerful tools in advocating for necessary care. Local community support groups provide resources and specialist recommendations that are typically out of the scope of primary care.
As someone with a dynamic disability- she understands the barriers that many in the disabled community face. Many days she requires a power wheelchair, but has days where a rollator or walking stick suffice.
Since beginning her first social media account dedicated to her health journey, she has had the opportunity to work with brands such as Aerie (American Eagle), Knix, Handicup, Helavo Mobility, and more.
“A Spoonful of Becky Designs” creates apparel and other accessories focused on pro-disability/inclusive messaging in addition to selling her fibre art. She loves to work with other disabled entrepreneurs and provide her expertise in this field.
